Aoide (Pronounced as Ay-oh-dee, meaning ‘to sing’) was formed in September 2014, as part of the Mid-West Vocal Academy and Music School. It is a mixed voice community choir based in the Castletroy area of Limerick. In Greek mythology, Aoide was the muse of song and we love to sing!

The choir has already performed many fundraising concerts. Funds have been raised for Limerick Animal Welfare, Limerick Lions Club, CMRF Crumlin, Children’s Grief Centre & Limerick Suicide Watch, among others.

The choir covers popular, upbeat music & is non-auditioning.  Everyone from the beginner to the experienced is welcome to join, in a relaxed and fun learning environment. Our Musical Director is Owen Gilhooly-Miles & Assistant Musical Director is Tríona Walsh.

Aoide was delighted to win the ‘First Time Competitors’ Competition at the 2017 Mayo International Choral Competition. They also were awarded second place in the 2018 ‘Choirs from Ireland’ competition. We very much hope and look forward to performing at a festival again in 2023.

The choir rehearses on Monday nights from 19:30-21:30 at Kilmurry Arts and Heritage Centre, Castletroy, Limerick. Registration for September to June is €55 for single membership and €70 for two from the same family. Weekly subscription per rehearsal is then €7. Please consider coming along for a few weeks rehearsals to see if we are for you before paying the registration fee.
